Primarily constructed of bamboo, they are a renewable agro-forestry product now finding increased use as an industrial material. Bamboo is the fastest growing plant on earth with increasing use as a versatile industrial material. The variety of bamboo used in the Panda Stands is plantation grown and not part of the Giant Panda's diet. It has a rapid maturity cycle of 3-4 years and with the viability to replace wood or metal components, it provides a critical component in the balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
